Why did SDC make the decision to wind down operations?
Unfortunately, despite having multiple potential bidders submit initial expressions of interest, as we’ve further engaged with these prospective investors, we were unable to facilitate a going concern (or whole company) bid from a partner willing to infuse the necessary capital for the path ahead given the ongoing macroeconomic factors and decline in discretionary consumer spending. Although the Founders were willing to invest additional capital into the Company, ultimately, a viable restructuring could not be obtained. Please know that this was an incredibly difficult decision, and we did not make it lightly.

How long will I be paid?
All team members will be paid through your last day of work, Friday, December 8th.

How long will I have healthcare benefits? Will there be further deductions from my paycheck?
You will have your existing health insurance coverage until the end of 2023. Please know any remaining contributions toward monthly health care coverage will be taken out of this next payroll, and deductions for your December health insurance will be reflected in your next paycheck. After this point COBRA will be unavailable and team members must obtain coverage elsewhere.

Am I eligible for severance?
Your final paycheck will reflect pay for all work through your last day, Friday, December 8th.

Can I retrieve my personal items?
If you have personal items you would like to retrieve, please send an email to peoplesupport@smiledirectclub.com and submit your name, contact information, and the belongings you wish to retrieve. We will reach out to you to ensure you are able to retrieve your personal belongings.

I have company property or technology. What should I do with it?
You are welcome to keep your SmileDirectClub laptops, monitors, and/or mobile devices. Please know all company proprietary information and emails will be deleted from your device. To the extent your device is not able to be wiped remotely, please delete all SDC proprietary information.

Is my 401(k) still intact?
Team member 401(k)s will remain intact. However, any funds allocated to your 401(k) will no longer be matched by SmileDirectClub. You can access your account through Fidelity at fidelity.com.

Will I still have access to email?
Please know access to your company email account has been terminated.
